First Liaison Prosecutor of Albania at Eurojust.
Accomplishment of the process for the selection of the first liaison prosecutor representing Albania at Eurojust.
Today, on December 17, 2020, the High Council of the Prosecution, decided to command the prosecutor Mrs. Fatjona Memçaj at Eurojust based on the proposal made by the General Prosecutor. The Liaison Prosecutor will serve at the EUROJUST office in The Hague for a period of 2 years and 6 months.
This is an important step towards the integration of the Albanian prosecution in European organizations focused on the fight against organized crime, trafficking, terrorism, economic crime, cybercrime, etc., through increased cooperation, coordination of investigations and rapid exchange of information.
The General Prosecutor Mr. Olsian Çela met the liaison prosecutor at Eurojust Mrs. Fatjona Memçaj to wish her successes in her new task and offered maximum support for a successful cooperation between Albania and Eurojust, in coordinating investigations and rapid exchange of information between the respective judicial authorities.
Eurojust was set up in 2002 by a decision of the European Council. It is composed of prosecutors, magistrates and police officers from every member state of the European Union as well as liaison prosecutors from the third countries where also Albania is included since November 1, 2019, when the Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Albania and Eurojust entered into force. The liaison prosecutors work alongside their counterparts from EU member states to provide support in cross-border investigations where their own country is involved.
