General Prosecutor of Albania, Mr. Adriatik Llalla, hosted a introduction meeting with the new Ambassador of the United States of America, Mr. Donald Lu and discussed to further strengthen the investigative capacity and institutional independence.

The government of the United States of America has given a very important contribution to strengthening the investigative capacity and increase institutional independence, said the General Prosecutor, Mr. Adriatik Llalla, in the presentation of the work done by the Prosecution office to the new US Ambassador in Tirana, Mr. Donald Lu, held on Monday (dt. 02.02.2015).

During the meeting held at the General Prosecution Office, Mr. Llalla made a general presentation to the American ambassador on the assistance gave from the American embassy of the OPDAT project, which contribution is to continuous assistance for the Court Prosecution Office for Serious Crimes, followed by the creation of the legal framework and the establishment of Joint Investigation Units. "Thanks to the contribution of American experts, the Prosecution Office for Serious Crimes and Anti-corruption units are two of the most important and more productive structures in Albanian Prosecution Office," said Mr. Llalla.

Focusing on the following projects, supported by the United States, the General Prosecutor of Albania stressed the importance of cooperation on the establishment of a special office for the protection of victims of crime. "It is very important the insurance and rehabilitation of persons affected by criminal acts. In this way, the institutions make a vital contribution to the reintegration of citizens who are the subject of crime, "- said Mr. Llalla. For this reason, the American support and expertise for the establishment of this office is one of the most important innovations in the Albanian Prosecution Office activity".

Following the meeting, the General Prosecutor and US Ambassador discussed strengthening the fight of Albanian law enforcement authorities against organized crime, transnational crime and corruption.

Ambassador Lu assured that the government of the United States of America will continue to support with projects and training the Prosecution Office of Albania to strengthen investigation and institutional capacity.
