Intervention into Vjosa River, causing 3 million lek worth of damage, Fier Prosecution Office takes to court three citizens for 'Habitat Destruction in Protected Areas'.


Fier Prosecution Office has concluded its investigations and has sent for trial the criminal case against the citizens A.L, E.L, and F.S, charged with the criminal offense of "Habitat Destruction in Environmental Protected Areas," as stipulated in articles 202/b and 25 of the Criminal Code. Fier District Court has granted the request to proceed with the criminal trial.
The investigations have proven that the defendants, in violation of existing legislation governing protected zones, undertook actions resulting in severe habitat degradation within the designated environmental area. The accused have been engaged in sand extraction activities within Vjosa River, officially recognized as a 'Natural Park' by CMD (Council of Ministers’s Decision) no.59 issued on 26.01.2022. The defendants' actions caused damages estimated at 3,000,000 lek.
