Press Release

Korça Prosecution Office demanded the forensic expert’s arrest; The fraudulent expertise unveiled because of a key detail.

Korça Prosecution Office demanded the imposition of "Remand in custody " as security measure against F.B., an expert in computer examinations at Tirana Forensic Police Institute.

The security measure was requested following the discovery of deception during the prosecution's investigations in criminal case No. 1875, dated December 29, 2023. This case involves charges of "Computer fraud," "Money laundering from criminal activities," and "Illegal employment," as specified in articles 143/b/2, 287/2, and 170/a of the Criminal Code.

During his arrest, among other items, USB drives were seized, including a 64GB metallic gray IIP brand and a white and yellow Philips brand 16GB. The prosecution, upon partial examination of these two USB drives, extracted materials relevant to the investigation, but due to their large volume, they were submitted to Tirana Forensic Police Institute for thorough examination. Prior to this, the prosecution created copies on CDs and kept meticulous records.

Just a few days later, Tirana Forensic Police Institute brought the expert report stating that the two USB drives did not contain current data or recoverable data in their memory.

Following this expertise, the Prosecution raised suspicions that the USB drives were not the same. These suspicions were validated through examination and comparison of visual evidence from both USB drives using forensic tools, computer programs like 'Media Player', and lenses, confirming that the USB drives had been altered.

A key detail supporting suspicions was that one of the seized HP brand USB drives, a 64GB model, examined at the time of seizure, did not match the version examined and submitted by the forensic expert. Notably, even upon external inspection, it bore a different inscription: HP 64GB version 3.0.
